Edge Finishing, Drilling & CNC Processing -
Glass Ready for Installation
After cutting, the monolithic glass must be prepared for its final use: sharp edges are dangerous, and an unfinished edge cannot be properly sealed in an insulated glass unit. At TDC Glass, edge finishing is performed on three dedicated lines, each optimized for a specific application segment—from the mass production of architectural glass to complex-geometry pieces for furniture or interior design.
1
Mechanical edge detension relief on all sides
No matter how precise the glass cutting process may be, it leaves an area on the edge that contains internal tension. Without detension relief, this area constitutes a permanent risk: cracking during handling, breakage due to temperature fluctuations, or damage to the film/laminate in the case of treated or laminated glass.
Mechanical edge stress relief on all four sides is a mandatory requirement prior to heat treatment (tempering, lamination) and a guarantee of the glass’s integrity throughout its entire lifespan. At TDC Glass, no sheet of glass intended for the assembly of insulated glass units leaves the facility without this operation.
- Simultaneous Processing of All Four Edges
- Rectangular and Custom Shapes
- Vertical Loading and Unloading
- Compatible with Washing Lines
2
Edge Grinding and Finishing
The type of edge finish depends on the final application: a matte straight edge (matte grinding) is sufficient for glass intended for insulated glass units or frame installation, while a glossy edge (polished) is preferred for visible elements—doors, shelves, and furniture.
The Bavelloni GEMY 9 C line — performs grinding and milling operations, one side at a time:
• grinding of straight edges to achieve uniform edges without micro-irregularities
• edge finishing to eliminate sharp cuts, for safety and aesthetics
• professional edge polishing
Complementary to this, the Z.Bavelloni VX PowerEdge V Series line is the solution for large-format architectural glass. The equipment simultaneously processes two opposite edges of the glass sheet, significantly reducing cycle times and ensuring superior tolerance precision.
Available Edge Finishes:
- Flat Matte Edge
- Polished Edge
- Beveled Edge
- Chamfered Edge
- Arrised Edge
Equipment:
- GEMY 6-11 (Line 1)
- VX PowerEdge + V Series (Line 2)
- LD Speed Arris (Line 3)
3
CNC Drilling and Milling
— Complex Shapes
The Denver Advance Plus CNC machining center combines in a single machine operations that would otherwise require separate machines: CNC milling (cutting, profiling, complex shapes), drilling, edge finishing, and edge grinding. Each part can differ from the previous one without setup time if the technical drawing of the part is loaded directly, making it particularly efficient for orders with diverse parts.
The equipment is primarily used for parts with special geometries: shower enclosures with cutouts and holes for hinges, glass railings with point fixings, glass staircases, doors with recessed handles, furniture (tables, display cases, mirrors), office partitions, and laminated glass with complex machining.
The drilling process includes counter-drilling on both sides—essential for achieving a clean bore without visible surface damage, regardless of the material’s thickness.
Available Operations:
- Shape Milling
- Drilling & Countersinking
- Edge Finishing
- Polishing
Applications:
- Shower Enclosures
- Glass Balustradesd
- Glass Staircases
- Glass Furniture
- Office Partitions
- Laminated Glass

Frequently Asked Questions
What types of edge finishes do you offer?
We offer M-C-M (edge-to-edge) finishing, mechanical edge rounding, matte grinding with an abrasive disc, and high-gloss polishing. The choice of finish depends on the application: a matte edge is standard for glass intended for joinery and IGU, while a polished edge is used for visible parts in architecture and furniture.
Can you process glass with holes and irregular cutouts?
Yes. The Denver Advance Plus CNC machine can perform holes of any diameter, rectangular or free-form cutouts, contour milling, and counterboring—all in the same machining cycle.
What is the maximum glass size accepted for architectural grinding?
What is the maximum glass size accepted for architectural grinding?
Line 2 — Z.Bavelloni VX PowerEdge— accepts sheets up to 3,900 × 2,450 mm for double-sided finishing. It is one of the largest capacities available at a processor in Romania.
Do you also process PVB laminated glass on your CNC machining center?
Yes. The Denver Advance Plus CNC machining center is fully compatible with PVB laminated glass when using the appropriate tooling and machining parameters. This ensures precise milling and drilling while minimizing the risk of edge delamination during processing.
