Custom Glass Cutting -
Industrial Precision from the Very First Cut

Glass cutting—or glass shearing, as it is known in the industry—is the first step in any glass processing workflow and, at the same time, the most critical. A dimensional deviation at this stage cannot be corrected later: edge finishing cannot make up for an imprecise cut, and glass intended for insulated glass units must meet tolerances in the order of tenths of a millimeter. At TDC Glass, cutting is performed on two specialized lines—one for monolithic glass and one for PVB laminated glass.

Monolithic glass cutting — sheets up to 6,000 × 3,210 mm

JUMBO-SIZE GLASS SHEETS

For standard monolithic, float, and low-E glass, we use the Bystronic SMFR CNC cutting table. The equipment processes JUMBO-format sheets measuring up to 6,000 × 3,210 mm, with thicknesses ranging from 4 to 12 mm, on three numerically controlled axes (X/Y/Z). The air-cushion table allows the sheet to slide without abrasive contact, eliminating the risk of scratching.

The integrated edge deletion function is essential for low-E glass and specially processed glass: the edge of the sheet is stripped of its coating before sealing or lamination, without affecting the active surface. This operation is performed in the same cycle as cutting, without additional steps.

Special shapes and cutouts — free-form geometry, no dies required

The same Bystronic SMFR line is configured for cutting complex shapes: circles, ovals, polygons, and custom geometries generated from DXF files or entered directly into the Bystronic MMC control. Custom-shaped glass is produced without the need for a physical mold or template—a decisive advantage for small orders, prototypes, or one-off parts.

Cutting PVB laminated glass — clean cut, no delamination

Cutting laminated glass requires a different approach than cutting monolithic glass. The PVB interlayer between the glass sheets must be thermally separated without microcracks or fragments—defects that compromise both aesthetics and mechanical strength. The Bottero 520 LAMe line solves this problem through dual infrared separation of the PVB film, with a positioning accuracy of ±0.5 mm.

The equipment processes laminated panels of the 3.3.1 duplex glass type (3+3 mm / 0.38 mm film) and 4.4.2 duplex glass type (4+4 mm / 0.76 mm film), up to 6.6.2 mm configurations with PVB films up to 4.56 mm. This range covers both custom safety glass for residential applications and cut laminated glass for architectural or industrial projects—including competitively priced cut laminated glass options for small batches.

The optional Easy Deletion Low-E feature allows, within the same cutting cycle, the removal of the coating at the edge of the sheet—directly preparing the pieces for assembly into insulated glass units, without intermediate operations.

Frequently Asked Questions

The maximum accepted size is 6,000 × 3,210 mm for monolithic glass (4–12 mm thick). PVB laminated glass is processed on the Bottero 520 LAMe line, with a maximum cutting length of 3,700 mm and an accuracy of ±0.5 mm.

Yes. The Bystronic SMFR line is equipped with an edge deletion function—controlled edge cleaning, necessary for sealing in insulated glass units. The coating on the active surface remains intact.

Yes. We do not impose a minimum order quantity. Our capabilities are configured for both large series (the automated Bottero 545 line) and single pieces or small batches.
